Schools/ Nurseries and PAT testing 

Nursery pat testingFaulty appliances can cause fires, injury or in worst cases death. So if working in an industry with young children where you have to be hyper vigilant in every aspect it is imperative to ensure that electric safety is maintained. You have to remember during school/ nursery hours you are responsible for the well being of the children.

If you have a PAT testing engineer come (at least) annually to test the appliances then you can rest assured that they are in good working order and you have done all you can to eliminate any risks.

Some useful information on plug fuses

fusesThe common UK plug – Is generally fitted with a 3A or 13A fuse. For appliances up to 700w you need to use a 3A fuse. And for appliances over 700w you need to use a 13A fuse.Here are some common examples:

3A Fuse – Table lamp, standard lamp, television, video, computer, mixer, blender, fridge, freezer, power drill, jig saw, soldering iron

13A Fuse – Washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, kettle, toaster, iron

Manufacturers have now standardised plug fuse ratings to be either 3A or 13A. However, 5 Amp fuses are still used in some older equipment and are available to buy.

Electrical Fire Safety 

Electricity is often overlooked as a possible fire hazard. This may be because there is no flame. However, some 28,000 fires in the home are reported each year as being caused by electrical faults, accidents or misuse of electrical equipment.

That can overload the main electrical wiring circuit in the house.
That can make the circuit overheat.

Microwave Leakage Testing

IMicrowave leakage testingn addition to PAT testing we also provide microwave leakage testing.

Microwave radiation is both odorless and invisible. Leakage can be caused by slamming the oven door, leaving food particles in the hinges or seals and moving the oven around etc.

A radiation intensity of only 5mw/cm2 is classed as being harmful, regular testing enables the identification of defective leaking microwave ovens.
