PAT Testing is required by employers and self-employed companies to ensure the safety of electrical appliances. This should be done regularly to ensure preventative maintenance; and it will help promote safety within your workplace.

As an employer you need to ensure the safety of anyone working for you. This does include making sure the equipment that your employees use is safe. If you are self-employed all the equipment you use for your business needs to be properly maintained and safe for use.

Many insurance companies will ask for evidence that your portable appliance testing has been carried out. Should there be an incident involving an electrical appliance, you would be required to provide that evidence that the equipment in question was safe to use.
